What is Sheet Pan Pizza?
Sheet pan pizza is an easy one pan meal made on a baking pan or baking sheet instead of a pizza stone. It is assembled just like a traditional pizza but it has a rectangular shape, similar to Detroit-style pizza.
Ingredients you need:
- Cornmeal: This is a genius way to ensure the pizza crust does not stick to the pan.
- Pizza dough: You can use homemade pizza dough or just use store bought.
- Buffalo sauce: Use your favorite sauce. Sweet Baby Ray's Mild Buffalo Wing Sauce is my favorite because it is the perfect amount of heat without being too spicy for the kids.
- Cheese: I use a combination of shredded mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese.
- Chicken: Use precooked and shredded chicken breast.
- Seasoning: I season the chicken with seasoned salt, garlic powder, and black pepper
- Ranch dressing: Either use this to drizzle on the buffalo chicken pizza or dip pizza slices into it.
How to Make Buffalo Chicken Pizza:
Add Dough to Baking Sheet
Preheat your oven to 400ºF. Then sprinkle cornmeal on an 18” x 26” sheet tray and spread it around to cover the bottom of the pan.
Now place the pizza dough directly on the sheet pan and spread it out until it is completely flat. Stretch it out over the pan so that the sides go slightly up the edge of the tray.
Layer Pizza Toppings
Spread 1 cup of buffalo sauce all over the pizza dough. Use a spoon or a ladle to spread it into one even layer.
Now sprinkle the mozzarella cheese all over the top of the pizza.
Add the cooked and shredded chicken to a bowl and season with the seasoned salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix this well until all of the chicken is coated evenly with the seasoning.
Add the chicken directly on the pizza in on single layer to cover the entire piece of dough. Now sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the chicken.
Bake Buffalo Chicken Pizza
Place the sheet pan in the oven and cook the pizza for 18-20 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through the cooking time.
Remove the pizza from the oven and drizzle with ranch dressing, or serve it on the side for dipping. Finally, enjoy!
Alternatives and Variations:
- Sauce: Instead of ranch dressing, you can drizzle the buffalo chicken pizza with blue cheese.
- Veggies: Add red onions or bell peppers for a pop of fresh flavor.
- Cheese: You can use provolone cheese
Pro-Tips for the Best Buffalo Chicken Pizza:
- To save time, you can make the dough up to 24 hours in advance and store it in the fridge. You can also use leftover chicken or rotisserie chicken instead of making it the day of.
- Sheet pan pizza has to be baked at a high temperature for a crispy crust and golden brown, gooey cheese topping.
Storing and Reheating:
Wrap leftover buffalo chicken pizza in aluminum foil and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat leftovers in the oven or air fryer at 400ºF for 5-7 minutes or until warmed through.
