What do I need to make the hot honey lemon pepper wings?

Believe it or not, you only need a few simple ingredients, and some seasoning to make these delicious wings! Gather these items:

  • Hot sauce- our favorite is Franks Red Hot sauce, but you use whatever you have on hand, or whichever your favorite is.
  • Honey- this is one of the key ingredients to making these wings so amazing!
  • Seasonings- the main seasonings are lemon pepper, seasoned salt, and garlic powder.
  • Butter- this just adds a silk texture and flavor to the sauce.
  • Olive oil or vegetable oil

How long do I air fry the chicken wings?

One of the best parts about cooking chicken wings in the air fryer is how fast they cook. These wings are done in just over twenty minutes!

So you are going to air fry them twice. The first time, set the timer for 10 minutes.

Once that time is up, flip them over, and air fry an additional 15 minutes. These times have been tried and tested numerous times.

It is guaranteed to make the most crispy and juicy air fried wings.

Tips to make the wings extra crispy in the air fryer:

The secret to making the wings crispy is coating them in olive oil or vegetable oil prior to air frying. Since the wings are not breaded, that oil coating provides a barrier to help create a crisp skin on the wings.

Coat the wings in the oil, then add the seasonings, and mix well. Use your hands, or a pair of tongs to make sure each wing is coated well with the oil and seasonings.

Then you want to place them in the air fryer in one single layer. DO NOT overlap the wings! You may have to cook them in batches.

What if I do not have an air fryer?

If you do not have an air fryer, you can make the wings in the oven. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Follow all of the same instructions as far as seasoning and coating the wings in oil.

If possible, use a broiler pan to bake the wings on.

Spray the pan with non-stick cooking spray. Place the wings in one single layer on a pan. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, flip them over, and bake an additional 10 minutes.

Then you will coat the wings in the hot honey lemon pepper sauce.

Are these hot honey lemon pepper wings spicy?

These lemon pepper wings are not super spicy, but they have a little kick. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the hottest, I would rate these wings a five.

If you are not into spice, cut back on the amount of hot sauce you put into the sauce.

I do not suggest omitting the hot sauce altogether, because that is one of the main flavor components in the sauce. Just cut the amount in half, and you should be okay.

Out of all of the air fryer wing recipes I have tried, this is by far the BEST one!

Making the wings ahead of time:

To make the wings ahead of time follow all of the instructions, but do not toss them in the sauce. If you wish to make them a day or two ahead of time, simply season and air fry. Store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

When you are ready to serve them, place them back in the air fryer on the "reheat function" for 5-7 minutes.

Prepare your hot honey lemon pepper sauce according to the instructions. Take the wings out of the air fryer and toss them in the sauce.

Side dishes to eat with hot honey lemon pepper chicken wings:

Almost any and every side dish pairs well with chicken wings. Here are a few of our favorite sides:

  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Southern collard greens
  • Loaded mashed potatoes
  • Fried cabbage
  • Pasta salad

Or, the wings are perfect as a stand-alone appetizer for any gathering or event. They are perfect for gameday!

How to store and reheat leftovers:

It will be a complete shock if you happen to have leftovers. If you do, place them in a container with an airtight lid. Put them in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Once you are ready to eat them, you can place them in the air fryer on "reheat" for 5-7 minutes. Alternatively, you can microwave them on high for one to two minutes.

Here are some other deliciou appetizers to try

  • Pepperoni Pizza Dip
  • Soul Rolls
  • Roast Beef Sliders
  • Chicken Jalapeno Popper Pockets

Ingredients

  • 12 Chicken wings wings and drums separated
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon pepper
  • ½ tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • ½ tablespoon Seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder

Hot Honey Lemon Pepper Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons Butter unsalted
  • ½ cup Hot sauce
  • ¼ cup Honey
  • 1 whole Lemon juiced
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Pepper seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

Instructions

  • Pat the chicken wings with paper towels to remove any moisture from them. Then place them in a large bowl.
  • Add the olive oil, lemon pepper, cajun seasoning, seasoned salt, black pepper, and garlic powder directly over the chicken. Mix it well to combine the oil and seasonings into the chicken.
  • Spray the air fryer tray with non-stick cooking spray. Place the chicken directly onto the tray in one single layer. Do not overlap the chicken. It may have to be cooked in batches.
  • Close the tray and place it on "air fry" mode at 375° for ten minutes. After the ten minutes, open it up and flip it over. Cook an additional 15 minutes.
  • Remove the wings from the air fryer and toss them in the sauce.

Hot Honey Lemon Pepper Sauce

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat. Add the butter in the skillet to melt. Once the butter is melted, pour in the hot sauce, honey, lemon juice, and seasonings.
  • Mix the sauce well until it is fully combined. Simmer for two minutes- continue to stir as the sauce will begin to thicken up.
  • Transfer to a bowl, or toss the wings right in the sauce in the skillet.

Don't think twice. This recipe is BUSSIN' ....it's HITTIN'... it's a must try and definitely gets a 10/10 from my entire family. We made these wings for Christmas - my sisters and I were having a chicken wings competition... it was a wrap when these came out. SO DANG GOOD! Thanks so much for the recipe, it'll be on repeat over here.

Omg this sauce is SO good! I only had sriracha on hand so I used that. It was SO spicy so I added about a tsp of sugar to help. I’m not big on bone in chicken so I just put it on sliced chicken breast. It was delicious. Can’t wait to try it with franks red hot sauce.

I did not know that hot honey was so easy to make and you have started a problem in my household because everyone wants these wings at least once a week now! It's a good problem to have, though, because I love them too. Thank you!

My husband used the word scrumptious to describe these wings. He was literally licking his fingers after every bite. He said the flavors were even popping the next day when he took them for lunch, He left no wing behind.
