Our household is a huge fan of chicken wings. It doesn't matter how they are cooked- braised, baked, or fried, they are always a hit.

Lemon Pepper Honey Chicken Wings

Ingredients needed for the lemon pepper honey chicken wings:

One of the best things about this recipe is just how easy it is to make! Here are the ingredients that you will need to gather for these wings:

  • Chicken wings: you can use whole wings, or cut them up into drumettes.
  • Flour: all purpose flour is best to achieve the crunchiness we are after.
  • Seasoning: a tried and true blend of seasonings to make these wings extra delicious!
  • Oil for frying: vegetable oil was used for this recipe.
  • Honey, Lemon, and Lemon pepper: this is the sauce for the wings.

Why combine lemon pepper and honey?

Lemon pepper is a very popular flavor for chicken wings. The zesty and tangy lemon with the subtle spice from the pepper is wildly delicious. Adding the honey to them kicks the flavor profile up a whole other notch!

There is just the right amount of tanginess, combined with the sweetness from the honey. It is truly an amazing combination for wings! You can add more honey, or take some away depending on the level of sweetness you desire.

How to achieve a "light breading:"

The best part about these chicken wings are how light and crispy the skin is. Traditional southern fried chicken has a pretty heavy breading. A lot of fried chicken recipes call for a buttermilk, or egg dredge prior to dipping in the flour.

For these wings you will skip the heavy batter, and just toss them in the seasoned flour. The light breading is intentional to help create the ultimate crunch. As a result, the lemon pepper honey cling to them much better. Even more, you will save quite a bit of time by skipping the whole dredging process.

Tips for the honey drizzle:

This lemon pepper honey is so amazing once it is warmed-up and drizzled all over the hot chicken. Try to use it right away if you can because the honey will harden once it sits long enough. Therefore, you should only warm it up right before serving.

Also, be sure to place a bit of the lemon pepper honey on the side for dipping. Rest assured, these lemon pepper chicken wings are SOMETHING SERIOUS!

Ingredients

  • 8-10 Chicken wings split into drums and flats if desired
  • 2 cups Vegetable oil for frying

Seasoning/ breading

  • 2 cups All purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoon Seasoning salt
  • 2 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Black pepper

Lemon Pepper Honey

  • ½ cup Honey
  • 2 tablespoon Lemon pepper seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a cast iron skillet over medium heat. In the meantime, season chicken liberally with all of the seasonings, ensuring to coat evenly.
  • Toss wings in flour mixture to coat evenly. Gently place wings in hot oil careful not to overcrowd pan.
  • While wings are frying, add honey, lemon pepper, and fresh lemon juice to a small sauce pan. Bring mixture to a light boil and remove from heat.
  • Fry wings on each side for 7 minutes, remove and drain on a rack or paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  • Let the wings sit for 5 minutes for breading to settle. Drizzle warm lemon pepper honey over chicken.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Honey mixture will harden after it cooks and sits for too long, use immediately after cooking.

I don't have air fryer yet. Can I make the wings in my oven?

Hi Lisa. These chicken wings are actually breaded and fried in oil, they are not air fried.
