How to Make Buffalo Chicken Sliders
See recipe card for ingredient quantities and full instructions.
Prep the Oven and Rolls
I start by preheating my oven to 350°F and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, I grab the Hawaiian rolls and carefully cut a hole in the top of each roll. I make sure the hole is deep enough to stuff the filling but not all the way through the bread.
Make the Buffalo Chicken Filling
In a large bowl, I combine the cheeses, chicken, ranch dressing, blue cheese (if using), and Buffalo wing sauce. I mix everything until it’s smooth and well combined. (Reserve ½ cup of mozzarella for later.)
Stuff the Rolls
Using a spoon, I fill each hollowed-out roll with the Buffalo chicken mixture, making sure to pack them generously. Once all the rolls are stuffed, I melt butter in the microwave with minced garlic and parsley, then brush it all over the tops and sides of the rolls.
Bake and Garnish
Before baking, I sprinkle the reserved mozzarella cheese over the rolls for a cheesy topping.
Then, I bake the rolls for 10–15 minutes until the cheese is golden brown and bubbling.
Once out of the oven, I garnish the buffalo chicken sliders with hot honey, parsley, or red pepper flakes and serve with ranch or extra Buffalo sauce on the side.
Pro Tips
- Use rotisserie chicken for convenience. It’s quick, flavorful, and shreds easily when warm, making it perfect for this recipe.
- Soften the cream cheese before mixing. Room-temperature cream cheese blends smoothly with the other ingredients for a creamy filling.
- Adjust the spice level to your taste. Use mild Buffalo sauce for less heat, or add cayenne pepper for extra kick.
- Hollow the rolls carefully. Create deep pockets in the slider buns without cutting all the way through to hold the filling securely.
- Brush the garlic butter generously. Coat the tops and sides of the rolls for a golden, flavorful crust that complements the filling.
- Garnish buffalo chicken sliders for flavor and presentation. Add parsley, green onions, or a drizzle of hot honey for a finishing touch that elevates the sliders.
What Goes with Buffalo Chicken Sliders?
- Coleslaw: A creamy, tangy coleslaw balances the heat of the Buffalo chicken and adds a refreshing crunch to the meal.
- Smashed Potatoes: Crispy, seasoned potatoes are a hearty and satisfying side that pairs perfectly with sliders.
- Celery and Carrot Sticks: Keep it classic with a side of crisp veggies to dip in ranch or blue cheese dressing.
- Macaroni Salad: A chilled, creamy macaroni salad complements the spicy sliders while adding a touch of comfort food nostalgia.
- Pickles: Serve a side of dill or bread-and-butter pickles for a tangy, zesty bite that cuts through the richness of the sliders.
Storage & Making Ahead
You can prepare the buffalo chicken dip filling in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze it for up to 3 months.
Buffalo chicken sliders are best served fresh, but leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days. To reheat, place them in an air fryer at 350°F for 3–5 minutes for a crispy finish, or heat them in the microwave for 30–60 seconds until warmed through.
FAQ
How long does it take to bake buffalo chicken sliders?
Buffalo chicken sliders take about 10–15 minutes to bake in a preheated 350°F oven. You’ll know they’re ready when the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden on top. Keep an eye on them toward the end to avoid over-browning.
Can I use a different type of bread for this recipe?
Yes, you can use dinner rolls, brioche buns, or even regular slider buns if you don’t have Hawaiian rolls. However, the sweetness of Hawaiian rolls pairs perfectly with the tangy, spicy flavors of the buffalo chicken filling.
How do I prevent the sliders from getting soggy?
Be sure to hollow out the rolls properly and avoid overfilling them with the mixture. Baking the sliders until the tops are golden and crisp also helps maintain the texture.
