What is Cookie Monster Ice Cream?
Cookie Monster Ice Cream is a vibrant blue, no-churn vanilla ice cream mixed with crushed Oreos and chocolate chip cookies. It’s a nostalgic, creamy dessert inspired by Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster. Traditional versions use churned ice cream, but my easy recipe is a simple homemade variation without an ice cream maker.
Ingredients
- Heavy cream: this is one of the main ingredients for the ice cream mixture. Make sure it is super cold too!
- Condensed milk: The sweetness for this no-churn recipe comes from the can of condensed milk.
- Food coloring: Blue food coloring is necessary to achieve the familiar blue color we know and love from the famous Sesame Street character, Cookie Monster!
- Vanilla extract: this helps give the vanilla ice cream flavor as a base.
- Cookies: Grab your favorite store-bought cookies. Mine are Chips Ahoy cookies, and Oreos!

How to Make Cookie Monster Ice Cream
See recipe card for ingredient quantities and full instructions.
I start by adding the heavy whipping cream, blue food coloring, and vanilla extract to a large bowl (or the bowl of my stand mixer).
I whip everything on high speed until stiff peaks form, which usually takes 3 to 5 minutes.
If the color isn’t vibrant enough, I add a little more food coloring until it’s just right. Once the cream is whipped, I fold in the sweetened condensed milk until fully combined.

Next, I crush the Oreos and Chips Ahoy cookies in a large Ziploc bag using a rolling pin, leaving some chunks for crunch. I mix most of the crushed cookies into the ice cream mixture, saving a few to sprinkle on top.

Then I pour the mixture into a loaf pan, top it with the reserved cookies, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze for at least 5 hours. That’s it — no ice cream maker or experience needed!
Pro Tips
- Use cold heavy whipping cream. Cold cream whips faster and holds its shape better.
- Chill your mixing bowl. For best results, place the bowl in the fridge or freezer for 10–15 minutes before whipping.
- Add food coloring gradually. Start with a small amount and increase as needed to achieve your perfect vibrant blue.
- Crush cookies into chunks, not crumbs. This gives the ice cream the best creamy and crunchy texture in every bite.
- Fold gently. When adding the sweetened condensed milk and cookies, fold carefully to keep the whipped cream light and airy.
- Freeze for at least 5 hours. For a firmer scoop, freezing overnight is even better.
- Cover tightly. Use plastic wrap or an airtight container to prevent ice crystals from forming.
Storage
Store your Cookie Monster Ice Cream in the loaf pan covered tightly with plastic wrap or in an airtight container. For the best texture, enjoy within 2 weeks. If it becomes too firm or icy, let it sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before scooping. A quick stir can also help refresh the creamy texture.

Cookie Monster Ice Cream Recipe Variations
- Nutter Butters: Or swap in any peanut butter cookies you prefer.
- Edible cookie dough: Add small balls of store-bought edible cookie dough into the ice cream mixture.
- Chocolate chips: Stir in milk chocolate chips for extra sweetness and texture.
- Whipped cream: Top each scoop with a dollop of whipped cream when serving.
- Ice cream sandwiches: Skip mixing in the cookie pieces and instead sandwich the ice cream between Chips Ahoy cookies.
- Brownie chunks or brookies: Fold in small pieces of brownies or brookies for an extra fudgy bite that pairs perfectly with the creamy vanilla base.
