What you need for the Cheesesteak sandwich:

  • Leftover steak, or make the steak fresh. The idea is to use a very thin cut of meat though, (ribeye is the best because it comes out very tender EVERY time)!
  • Cheese: mozzerella cheese is amazing for these sandwiches because it gets nice and melty!
  • Bell peppers and onions. Slice up some bell peppers and onions. You can use red bell peppers, green bell peppers, or whichever you have on-hand.
  • Seasonings: seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder, worcestershire sauce

Pro Tips

  • Slice the steak thin: Thin slices cook quickly and give you that classic cheesesteak texture.
  • Don’t overcook the meat: Ribeye cooks fast, so keep an eye on it to avoid drying it out.
  • Toast the bread: Lightly toasting the rolls keeps them from getting soggy and adds great texture.
  • Switch the cheese: Mozzarella is delicious, but provolone or white American cheese are also great options.

FAQ about Cheesesteak Sandwiches

Yes! While ribeye is traditional, you can also use sirloin, flank steak, or leftover grilled steak.

The steak and vegetables can be cooked ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet before assembling the sandwiches.

Soft hoagie rolls or sub rolls are ideal because they hold the filling without falling apart.
