Ingredients for turkey salad:
You can use precooked chicken or turkey for this recipe. They both deliver the same delicious flavor. Here is what you need:
- Turkey or chicken: leftover turkey from Thanksgiving is perfect for this salad. Precooked chicken will work as well. Dice it or shred it, and add it to a bowl.
- Mayonnaise: this is the component that makes the chicken salad super creamy.
- Seasonings: the ground cumin is a key seasoning. It adds a nice smoky flavor to the turkey salad.
- Grapes or cranberries: the fruit component adds a nice pop of sweetness to this creamy chicken salad.
Do I have to use the breast meat only?
The recipe calls for chicken or turkey breast, but any piece of the chicken or turkey can be used with the skin removed.
Depending on your preference, add or cut the mayo to your level of creaminess. These measurements create the perfect level of creaminess though!
Ideas to eat the turkey or chicken salad:
Top your favorite bread, roll, or croissant with the salad. Add some lettuce, (and cheese if that's your thing)!
Another great option is to eat the turkey or chicken salad with crackers. It seriously takes 10 mins to whip up, making it a perfect weeknight meal.
Definitely add the grapes or cranberries!
Although it may seem a bit strange, the grapes add such an amazing flavor. A hint of sweetness, along with a slight textural difference. It is HIGHLY recommeded that you try it for yourselves.
Another great substitution for the grapes are dried cranberries. The sweet and sour flavor from the cranberries add a great pop of flavor to cut the creaminess with.
Substitute for mayonaise:
Definitely substitute the mayo with plain Greek yogurt if desired. To get the ultimate creaminess- use Mayo! Greek yogurt has a bit of a tanginess to it, so it does change the flavor a bit.
Enjoy this creamy Turkey or chicken salad all year round; but especially when you have leftovers to use up!
Let's eat!
