Alternatives and Variations:

  • Cheese: You can replace American cheese with shredded cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese for a spicy kick.
  • Egg: If you do not like scrambled eggs, fry them and then place the folded eggs in the muffin tin. You can also use egg whites for a low-fat option.
  • Protein: Want to skip pork sausage? Try chicken sausage or turkey sausage. Or swap the sausage for crispy bacon instead. Make it meatless for an egg and cheese mcgriddles.
  • Pancakes: This recipe uses premade mini pancakes but you can make them pancake batter from scratch or use a pancake mix if you prefer.

FAQ:

How do you make the McGriddle at home?

The easiest way to replicate the McGriddle is in bite-size form. Assemble mini pancakes, cooked sausage, scrambled eggs, cheese, and maple syrup in a muffin pan and bake just until the cheese has melted.

Does sausage mcgriddle come with cheese?

No. When you order it at McDonald’s, you have to specify that you want cheese.

Are McGriddles injected with syrup?

The pancakes or “griddle cakes” at McDonald’s are infused with syrup so they are not too sticky to hold. You can easily replicate this at home by adding syrup to the center of the sandwich.

Mini Sausage McGriddle

Make McDonald's Sausage McGriddle at home with this easy copycat recipe. The bite-size breakfast sandwiches include savory sausage patties, scrambled eggs, and melted American cheese between two mini pancakes.

Ingredients

  • 4 large Eggs
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper
  • 6 Sausage patties
  • 3 slices American cheese, (sub shredded cheese)
  • 12 mini Pancakes
  • Maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Add your eggs to a bowl, sprinkle the black pepper into the bowl and whisk the eggs until they are fully scrambled.
  2. Spray a muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray, and pour about 2-3 tablespoons of the egg mixture into each muffin.
  3. Place the pan in the oven and bake the eggs for about 7 minutes, just until they are almost cooked through. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  4. While the eggs are baking, cook your sausage patties in a skillet over medium-high heat until they are cooked through and brown on both sides. Remove them from the heat and set aside.
  5. Cut your American cheese slices in half so that you end up with 6 pieces of cheese.

To Assemble the McGriddles:

  1. Take the eggs out of the muffin tin so that you can build the McGriddle. Add one mini pancake to the bottom of each tin, drizzle or brush some of the maple syrup on top of each pancake.
  2. Now place a sausage patty on top of the pancakes, then add the scrambled egg, followed by a slice of the cheese.
  3. Add the other mini pancake on the top, and brush it with maple syrup. Place the McGriddles in the oven and allow them to bake so that the cheese can melt. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Serve right away, and Enjoy!
