What is a McGriddle?
A McGriddle is a McDonald's breakfast sandwich. The classic McGriddle contains bacon, egg, and cheese between two griddle cakes with maple syrup. The sausage McGriddle is made with hot sausage, griddle cakes, and maple syrup.
Ingredients you need:
This sausage mcgriddle recipe includes eggs, black pepper, sausage patties, American cheese slices, 12 mini pancakes, and maple syrup.
How to Make a Sausage McGriddle:
Combine eggs and seasoning in a large bowl. Then preheat the oven to 350°F, apply cooking spray, and pour the egg mixture into a muffin tin. Bake the scrambled eggs until they are almost cooked through.
While the eggs are baking, cook sausage patties in a skillet over medium heat.
Assemble sausage mcgriddles with one mini pancake to the bottom of each tin. Drizzle or brush some of the maple syrup on top of each pancake.
Then place a sausage patty on top of the pancakes, next the scrambled egg, followed by a slice of cheese. Place another mini pancake on top and brush it with maple syrup.
Place the McGriddles in the oven and allow them to bake so that the cheese can melt. This should take about 5 minutes. Serve immediately.
Alternatives and Variations:
- Cheese: You can replace American cheese with shredded cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese for a spicy kick.
- Egg: If you do not like scrambled eggs, fry them and then place the folded eggs in the muffin tin. You can also use egg whites for a low-fat option.
- Protein: Want to skip pork sausage? Try chicken sausage or turkey sausage. Or swap the sausage for crispy bacon instead. Make it meatless for an egg and cheese mcgriddles.
- Pancakes: This recipe uses premade mini pancakes but you can make them pancake batter from scratch or use a pancake mix if you prefer.
Make-Ahead Sausage McGriddle:
Prepare sausage mcgriddles according to recipe instructions. Once they have cooled, wrap them individually in foil and store them either in an airtight container or a Ziploc bag in the freezer. They will last up to 2 months.
To reheat a frozen mcgriddle, add it to an oven preheated to 350°F for about 15 minutes.
Storing and Reheating:
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the microwave or oven until warmed through.
FAQ:
How do you make the McGriddle at home?
The easiest way to replicate the McGriddle is in bite-size form. Assemble mini pancakes, cooked sausage, scrambled eggs, cheese, and maple syrup in a muffin pan and bake just until the cheese has melted.
Does sausage mcgriddle come with cheese?
No. When you order it at McDonald's, you have to specify that you want cheese.
Are McGriddles injected with syrup?
The pancakes or "griddle cakes" at McDonald's are infused with syrup so they are not too sticky to hold. You can easily replicate this at home by adding syrup to the center of the sandwich.
