Apple cider is an amazing treat that brings back so many nostalgic memories. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I have fond memories of consuming massive amounts of this warm drink.
What are the Spiced (or spiked) Apple Cider in a Jar used for?
Whether you are in a pinch for a last minute gift idea, or you have a group of people to give gifts to. These are perfect for any occasion.
They are super simple to put together and give as gifts. Give them as gifts to teachers, parents, friends, and family, the ideas are endless!
One of the best things about them is that you can add the basic ingredients, and tailor the rest to your style. This way, the recipient can see the love you put into making them.
Gather the supplies to make them:
- Mason jars- with handles are best. Linked to some cute ones that have gift tags; but you can certainly head to your local craft or dollar store as well!
- Lids for the jars
- Gift tags with twine or string
- Apple cider packets
- Cinnamon sticks
- For spiced cider: star anise, cloves, and all spice
- For spiked cider: apple flavored liquor (whiskey or bourbon, not vodka)
How to assemble the gift jars:
Now for the fun part! Get creative, paint or decorate the jar if you desire. Or, use the gift tags and string as a way to label the gift jars.
Write a note on the card, whether it's simply a "to and from" note, or instructions to mix the drink. Even better, look up whimsical holiday quotes that the recipient will enjoy

- ½ tablespoon All spice, to divide evenly among jars
- 1 tablespoon whole Cloves, to divide evenly among jars

Instructions
Divide cloves and all spice evenly for the 3 different jars. Place the even amount in the disposable plastic containers, and close the lid.
Using the twine, tie 2 pieces of cinnamon together.
Start arranging the items in the jars, just so they fit. Arrange items the best you can so that everything can be seen through the jar.
Add the Apple cider, plastic container with spices, cinnamon sticks, and liquor if using it.
Close the jars using the lid. Write a message on the gift tag- whether a whimsical quote, or instructions for making the Apple cider.
Tie the gift tag around the lid of the jar. It is now ready to be gifted to someone special!
Notes
Instructions for Apple Cider: add packet of apple cider mix to boiling hot water (according to packet instructions). Add spices and cinnamon sticks to steep if desired; or add the Apple liquor for a spiked version!
